Recipe Ingredients

  • 300g haddock fillets  
  • 2 garlic cloves  
  • 2 cups greens (chard, collards, or kale)  
  • ¾  cup brown rice  
  • 1½  cups water  
  • 4 tbsp. olive oil  
  • 1 tbsp. sesame seeds  
  • 1 tbsp. miso paste  
  • 1 tbsp. cane sugar  
  • 2 tbsp. rice wine vinegar  
  • Salt & pepper, to taste  
  • ¼ cup pickled onions

Prepare the Ingredients  

  • Rinse fish fillets and pat dry with paper towels.  
  • Mince garlic.  
  • Rinse and dry greens. For chard, collards or kale, cut leaves into ribbons.

Make the Rice  

  • Rinse the rice in a fine sieve and add it to a small pot with 1½ cups water and a pinch of salt. Bring to boil.

  • Once boiling, reduce the heat to simmer and cook, covered, until the rice is tender and the water is absorbed, about 20-25 minutes. 

Braise Greens  

  • Heat 1 tbsp olive oil on a skillet over medium.  
  • Add 1 tsp minced garlic, cook for 2 minutes.  
  • Add greens, stirring to coat with garlic and oil.

  • Add salt and sesame seeds and stir until greens are wilted and tender.

  • Remove from heat, divide greens between two plates.  

Cook the Fish  

  • In a small bowl, combine miso, cane sugar, 2 tbsp. olive oil, 1 tsp minced garlic, and rice wine vinegar. Stir well until cane sugar is fully dissolved.

  • Heat 1 tbsp. olive oil on the skillet used for the greens over medium. Place fish in the skillet skin side up for 3-4 minutes, flipping halfway through. NOTE: Haddock is delicate and might not stay intact while flipping.

  • Brush miso glaze on both fillets.

  • Cover and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes, until fish is flaky but not overcooked.  

Bring it All Together  

  • Divide rice and braised greens onto two separate plates, alongside the greens.  
  • Top with haddock and pickled onions. 
  • Serve and enjoy!
