Organic BBQ Jackfruit Sliders

We'd go as far to say that these Jackfruit Sliders are a grand slam of plant based flavour.

They are 100% vegan but you wouldn't know unless we told you because they are meaty, juicy, smoky, and slightly spicy like most carnivorous dishes. With just one skillet to cook with, this dish is easy to make and even easier to clean.

Ingredients

Kitchen Supplies

  • grater or food processor
  • colander, medium bowl
  • medium skillet

Recipe Ingredients 

  • 1 cup cabbage
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 avocado
  • 110g canned jackfruit
  • ½ cup The Healthy Butcher’s BBQ Sauce
  • ½ cup Apple Cider Goji Berry Dressing
  • 2 gluten-free buns
  • salt & pepper

Prepare the Ingredients  

  • Wash and shred the cabbage using a knife.

  • Wash and grate the carrots.

  • In a colander, drain and rinse the jackfruit.  
  • Cut avocado in half, remove pit and skin. Cut avocado into dice-sized cubes.

Cook the Jackfruit  

  • Heat a medium skillet over medium heat. 
  • Once hot, add Fresh City's BBQ Sauce and the jackfruit. Toss to coat jackfruit and cook until sauce bubbles, about 5 minutes.

  • Reduce temperature to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Stir occasionally to avoid burning the sauce.  
  • Remove from heat. Add salt and pepper to taste.  
  • Use two forks to pull the jackfruit into thin strips.

Assemble the Slaw  

  • Meanwhile, in a medium sized bowl, mix cabbage and carrots together with the Apple Cider Goji Berry Dressing.

  • Lightly fold in avocado cubes. 

 
Bring it All Together  

  • Slice buns in half and toast (recommended, but optional).

  • Add 2-4 tbsp of slaw and a pile of pulled jackfruit to each bun. 
  • Serve the remaining slaw on the side. 
  • Serve and enjoy!
