Happy Farm Friday!

This year marks our ninth growing season at our Fresh City urban farm in Downsview Park, and last week we planted our very first seeds of the season, how exciting! As we eagerly await for the snow to melt, things are heating up in the greenhouse. Every week from now until August, we will be planting seeds. During March, we start crops that take a long time to grow (onions, flowers, tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers). In April, we start growing seedlings in large numbers (lettuce, fennel, chard, zucchini, okra, and so many more)! Once the soil is warm enough to work, we begin direct seeding crops as early as possible (rapini, carrots, beets, peas, and beans). Witnessing the tiny seeds that we sow and the plants that we tend grow and eventually be harvested for food is the best part about being a farmer!
